boatingThe Gig Harbor Peninsula area is synonymous with water and recreation.  Many local and state parks offer opportunities for visitors and residents to play.  Sailing, kayaking and pleasure craft are a way of life on the Peninsula.

The Gig Harbor Lighthouse marks the entrance to the harbor and is a welcome site to many.  The 15-foot lighthouse replaced a minor aid to navigation in 1988, when community members raised local funds and donated materials for its construction. It was dedicated in 1989 in conjunction with the Washington State centennial celebrations.  The lighthouse is located onLighthouse land owned by the US Coast Guard and is reachable only by water.

Summer months bring visiting yachts and boats into the harbor from all over the Puget Sound.  Quieter in winter but a beautiful time to be on the water, you'll see fewer boats but a great deal of marine life and waterfowl.  Opportunities for visitors to enjoy the water and other recreational activities include:
